Rouge Dior: Seal it with a Kiss

by Pressroom

Elevate your Rouge Dior experience with a renewed formula that comes in 35 shades, 2 finishes, and endless possibilities.

There are three ‘highs’ commonly expected of lip colour: coverage, colour and longevity. Rouge Dior adds comfort into that equation, and there’s no compromise on that.

Derived from Dior’s deep research into floral science, the latest Rouge Dior is infused with a unique extract of red peony that helps to enhance and revitalise the delicate skin of the lips day after day. Its composition is rich in omega 6 and 9 essential fatty acids that help to protect the skin barrier by limiting natural hydration loss. Shea butter provides lip nutrition and comfort, while three other floral oil extracts complete the formula:

  1. Pomegranate flower extract plumps the lips

  2. Prickly pear flower extract optimises hydration

  3. Hibiscus flower extract promotes comfort by encouraging the natural synthesis of ceramides

Ever since its first iteration in 1953, Rouge Dior – the first makeup product created by the Maison – has endeavoured to dress smiles for every occasion, and empower the wearer with the power to express themselves through it. With every reinvention, the legendary lipstick has remained true to its couture legacy and its devotion to elevate the experience of the wearer.

Renovating Rouge Dior is always an exciting challenge. Because how can you top an already excellent product?

Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup

Ever the colour artist, Peter Phillips built on Dior’s expertise in the multiple tones and sub-tones of the lips, to expand the range of nude shades – a natural colour with a thousand facets and subtle nuances – to enhance diverse skin tones. New colours were also developed: brownish-reds, bricks, pinkish nudes, and brownish corals create multiple possibilities for self-expression.

Four star shades anchor the collection: 999 (in satin and velvet) is the iconic, timeless warm red with a touch of blue; 100 Nude Look (in velvet) is a universally flattering, contemporary nude defined by a soft beige with a hint of pink ; 720 Icone (in satin and velvet) is the rosewood defined as a brownish pink with a deep blue facet; 777 Fahrenheit (in velvet) is a new flamboyant orangey-red combining the numbers 7 and 77 that appeared among the founding Rouge Dior shades.

Housed in a refillable case that has a slim belt fronted with a CD buckle, the 35 rich and vivid shades in this collection come in two couture finishes – velvet and satin. Each bullet is decorated in minute detail, with motifs inspired by Dior fabrics.

Rouge Dior velvet, like its name suggests, is deep and rich like velvet while offering a soft-touch that envelops the lips in an almost imperceptible finish – like a second skin. Despite its matte finish, it offers a smoothing effect that is also comfortable for the wearer, thanks to a trio of 100% natural origin waxes that constitutes the structure of the formula, enabling just the right amount of glide while ensuring optimum adhesion to the lips. This is combined with a silky gel to achieve a soft-touch effect, two oils that help with glide, and a trio of powders that provide softness and luminosity.

These natural origin waxes, together with a duo of powders, also provide the sensorial glide of Rouge Dior satin. Intensely radiant in finish, the luscious texture ensures an enveloping coat of colour while providing a perfectly smooth lip surface. The skin on the lips appears plumped, supple, and soft.

The latest Rouge Dior collection portrays a radiant and modern iteration of Christian Dior’s famous “coup de Trafalgar”, a celebration of Dior’s red designs. The audacious and spectacular approach was created as an element of surprise in the middle of a runway show. Honouring that iconic moment is the latest campaign marking the rebirth of Rouge Dior. The inspiring campaign is filmed by Bardia Zeinali, a director with a pop, fantasy style, and photographed by contemporary fashion photographer, Mario Sorrenti, known for his experimental and sophisticated use of colour and light. Set to the highly rhythmic Depêche Mode track “Personal Jesus”, the four House Ambassadors – Yara Shahidi, Dilraba Dilmurat, Rachel Zegler and Anya Taylor-Joy – each with their own personality and talents, showcase powerful and inspirational moments of femininity and empowerment.
