She’s So Addictive

by Susanah Cheok

The beauty world swoons with headiness over the dynamic pairing of YSL Beauty ambassador Zoe Kravitz, and the brand’s intoxicating, iconic scent, Black Opium.

I don’t know about you, but Zoe Kravitz makes me want to defy convention and embrace the very essence of free spiritedness. Such is the magnetism and charisma of the beautiful progeny of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet.

At 29, Zoe has already starred in six movies, two successful television series, and is the frontwoman for the band Lolawolf. She stars in her seventh film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which is to be released this November 16th.

Acting and singing aside, this hardworking Hollywood royalty, model and YSL Beauty Global Makeup Ambassador, is set to blaze a new trail as the global spokesperson for the brand’s iconic scent, Black Opium.

On social, Zoe will embrace Black Opium’s transformative and progressive qualities to engage her 3.4 million followers in an innately cool Zoe way, via an eye-catching campaign that will capture new audiences and charm existing ones.

Zoe’s compelling life choices and seductive style makes her the perfect personification of Black Opium – both are daring, edgy, sensual, and have a life-force and energy that the world would be oh-so-dull without.

In the fresh new Black Opium campaign that’s to be released on August 18th, which is set in Asia and shot by celebrated international photographer and director Jonas Lindstroem, Zoe’s soulful beauty is wholly captured, along with her crew of stunning Black Opium devotees, whom she rules. In it, they heed her siren call and spread it. Resistance is futile and addiction, alas, is inevitable.

Accompanying this enticing campaign is an equally exuberant print and digital creative shot by London photographer Tyrone LeBon that encapsulates Zoe’s and Black Opium’s dose of shining, blithe, seductive twin spirits.

Though the two seem paired for life from the get-go, the humble star presumes nothing. Of her appointment as Black Opium’s global spokesperson she says, “Black Opium is such an incredible fragrance, a staple of the brand, and a classic that I never even dared to hope I would be a part of. And yet from the very beginning, when I first started working in the makeup division and would smell the fragrance on the YSL team, I would ask them, ‘what are you wearing?’ I just loved it.”

This urban adventurer sees that “the whole concept behind our video for Black Opium is about going out into the night, into the unknown, and I hope that even the commercial itself will inspire people one way or another to seek out adventure.”

What makes Zoe come back over and over again for more Black Opium is its equality of yin and yang. “I’m always very picky about fragrance, because I find that oftentimes fragrances can be too much of one thing… but Black Opium has an earthy coffee smell with vanilla and jasmine, which doesn’t feel too masculine or too feminine, it just has a wonderful balance.”
