Hermès Hippomobile: Playful Teatime Rituals

by Pressroom

Time to unwind.

Teatime is the coveted break in a busy day. Synonymous with rest, relaxation and rejuvenation, this time of the day is a respite from the daily schedule. Hermès gives us one more reason to enjoy this ritual with a delightful tea set designed by Italian artist Gianpaolo Pagni.

Inspired by jockey silks and the world of cartoons, the tea service is made up of pieces that can be freely paired and combined according to one’s whim and fancy. The Maison’s emblematic mascot, the horse, is present in a most playful motif, stretching over three plates, popping up from within a cup, and wrapped around a teapot.

I envisioned a horse with an elongated back that could hold several riders. A kind of limousine horse.

Gianpaolo Pagni

Gianpaolo Pagni works his artistic magic, interpreting an engraving from the Émile Hermès collection: a monochrome frame, which he covered with graphic friezes evoking jockey outfits. The creative narrative of Hermès Hippomobile invites you to reinvent teatime, and is just as easily repurposed for use at any time of the day – perking up your day at breakfast, or adding a pop of colour to your snack.

The versatile range includes charming coffee cups and tea cups with matching saucers, colourful dessert plates and serving plates, fun mugs and a quirky sugar bowl, each piece true to Gianpaolo Pagni’s signature style. Stamps are crafted and then used to create the compelling motifs, leaving behind the slight quiver in the line characteristic of this technique.
