We’re mooning over Zenith’s new super versatile ladies’ watch.
A star-flecked night sky calls to mind vastness, expansive freedom, and the highest ceiling imaginable – this is the imagery Zenith conjures when designing its first-ever ladies’ watch from the ground up.
Zenith Defy Midnight is all about the woman who is reaching upwards literally for the stars, and has been created with her multifaceted lifestyle in mind. “We all have stars we want to reach,” says Zenith CEO Julien Tornare. “This could be in your private life or in your business, your sports or your arts.”
Of course, the star is also the logo of the Swiss luxury watchmaker, first established in 1865, and now represents the pinnacle of the modern Zenith woman’s ever-evolving journey.
Launching its Zenith “DreamHers” campaign in September, the watch brand has handpicked six exceptional women from around the world to personify this spirit of personal growth and high achievement – with local multi-hyphenate Sheila Sim (model, actress, mother, well-being advocate) representing Singapore and Asia.
A Dreamy Firmament
Housed in a slim 36mm stainless steel case, the celestial dial of Defy Midnight comes in gradients of black and blue depicting the starry night sky – giving Zenith’s “time to reach your star” philosophy a literal, visual manifestation. Also available in a chic mother-of-pearl variation evoking “moonlight on a cloudy night”, with white diamonds applied on every hour marker, except at 3 o’clock where the date window is placed.
The watch itself is powered by the automatic in-house caliber Elite 670 SK movement, also used in the other women’s watches in the Zenith Elite collection, and which provides dependable precision and autonomy of 50 hours. This is a nod to the original Defy collection of men’s watches that contained the brand’s most advanced complications, and which gives the women’s line a great potential for incorporating future variations and advancements in in-house movements.
A New Level of Customisation
Delightfully, Zenith has fulfilled its design brief to be the modern women’s everyday watch with a range of interchangeable bracelets and straps in stainless steel, satin and leather – all of which can be swapped out quickly requiring no tools or special skills.
The Defy Midnight also comes in either flat polished stainless steel or set with 44 VS brilliant-cut diamonds, which elevates the watch from sporty-chic timepiece to dressy evening jewellery. These extra layers of versatility add a sense of fun and whimsy to what is essentially a sturdy, dependable and compact timepiece.
