A bejewelled Spring emanates life. A delicate carnelian ladybug in mid-flight, glowing mother-of-pearl plum blossoms in full bloom, and rose gold textured leaves – Van Cleef & Arpels captures the enchanting diversity of the natural world in its latest collection Lucky Spring.
The animal kingdom has inspired many stunning creations at the Maison over the years, with creatures symbolising good luck designed into jewellery, thus playing the role of a daily companion worn and treasured. The distinctive ladybug made its debut in the 1930s in the form of charms made from coral, cultured pearls or enamel, that graced lapels, gowns and hats. Decades on, in the 2000s, ladybugs set with precious stones and Mystery Set rubies adorned high jewellery. Now, this vibrant creature takes centrestage once again in this series of precious, charming garden of jewels depicting Spring’s liveliness.
Presented as a single motif in 2 bracelet designs – at rest with its wings folded, or with wings fully spread – polished gold pins dot the wings set in carnelian while black onyx portrays the head, and ornamental stone motifs are set by discreet prongs concealed by the beaded rose gold contour worked individually by hand. The design with the ladybug in flight also features a body made in matching mirror-polished rose gold.
The beloved ladybug also makes its appearance in the Lucky Spring 5-motif bracelet and long necklace with 15 motifs. Interspersed with tasselled leaves that dance with the slightest movement, glistening plum blossoms with fine golden pistils, and lustrous mother-of-pearl lilies of the valley, the pieces reflect the exuberance of the season in immaculate detail.
Rounding off the collection is the Lucky Spring clip that unites all the different motifs in an ensemble that highlights the interplay of textures and hues, along with a dainty pair of earrings in the shape of plum blossoms.
