Vacheron Constantin marks 270 years with a reissue of its iconic 222 in stainless steel, the first highlight of the watchmaker’s anniversary celebration
Luxury watchmaker Vacheron Constantin celebrates its 270th anniversary in 2025, beginning with the reissue of one of its most beloved timepieces, the Historiques 222, now available in stainless steel.
First launched in 1977 to mark the brand’s 222nd anniversary, the original 222 was a bold departure from conventional sports watches, blending refined elegance with a more relaxed, contemporary aesthetic. Designed by Jorg Hysek, its integrated bracelet, fluted bezel, and ultra-thin automatic movement set it apart in a market dominated by tool watches aimed at divers and pilots.

Now, nearly half a century later, Vacheron Constantin has reinterpreted the 222 with a host of technical and aesthetic upgrades.
The 2025 edition, housed in a 37mm stainless steel case, retains the signature design elements of its predecessor while incorporating a transparent sapphire caseback showcasing the in-house Calibre 2455/2 movement. The movement has been refined for modern performance, featuring a higher 4Hz frequency for improved precision and a 40-hour power reserve.

Subtle yet significant design tweaks also enhance the watch’s ergonomics and visual appeal. The bracelet now conceals its pins, improving fluidity and comfort, while a triple-blade clasp replaces the original twin-blade design.
On the dial, the repositioned date window and vintage typography pay tribute to the original model, with Super-LumiNova-coated markers echoing the tritium glow of historical timepieces.

The reissue of the 222 marks the beginning of a year-long celebration for Vacheron Constantin, a brand that has continuously balanced tradition and innovation for nearly three centuries. By reviving this timepiece —affectionately known as the ‘Jumbo’ among collectors— Vacheron Constantin pays tribute to a watch that redefined luxury sports design, elegantly weaving together past and present.
