Vacheron Constantin marks 20 years of its Patrimony collection with an understated limited-edition timepiece
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Patrimony collection, Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin has launched a new limited-edition self-winding model, crafted in collaboration with French designer Ora ïto. Limited to just 100 pieces, the watch pays homage to the minimalist, vintage-inspired design that has defined the Patrimony line since its debut in 2004.
Drawing on the elegance of the 1950s, the latest Patrimony model features a 40mm yellow gold case framing a tone-on-tone dial, adorned with concentric circles designed to catch the light. The cambered surface of the dial, subtly echoing the aesthetic simplicity of mid-century designs, evokes what Ora ïto describes as “the circular movement of light” reminiscent of the Baily’s Beads phenomenon seen during a solar eclipse.
The timepiece is powered by the in-house Calibre 2450 movement, visible through a sapphire crystal caseback. This intricate mechanism showcases fine watchmaking techniques, including circular graining, Côtes de Genève, and an openworked gold oscillating weight that features Vacheron Constantin’s Maltese cross. Reflecting the Maison’s dedication to craftsmanship, the watch’s curved hands, hour markers, and ‘pearl’ minute track have been meticulously finished to maintain the understated, refined look of the collection.
Ora ïto, known for his philosophy of “Simplexity” — the art of creating seemingly simple designs that conceal complexity — has been associated with the Patrimony line since 2019. The new model’s design mirrors his ethos, focusing on essential elements that convey elegance without excess.
Accompanied by a burgundy calfskin strap with geometric motifs, the latest Patrimony self-winding timepiece encapsulates the timeless appeal of the collection, blending vintage touches with contemporary craftsmanship.
