Piaget Polo Date 36mm: Fabulously Refined

by Li Yuling

The new sporty-chic Piaget Polo 36mm collection comes dressed in stainless steel, rose gold, white gold, and diamonds – for every mood of every day.

Created in 1979, the Piaget Polo, in all its golden glory, was a bold, creative statement that set Piaget apart from the other luxury watchmakers. A true icon, the Piaget Polo remains one of the Swiss Maison’s most recognisable timepieces today, even as it has continually evolved with the times.

Loved and worn by celebrities like Andy Warhol, Roger Moore and Ryan Reynolds, the Piaget Polo marks a striking presence on any wrist it graces. Originally a men’s timepiece, the Piaget Polo’s glamorous appeal has not been lost on the fairer sex. After all, who can forget Rihanna rocking that bold, yellow gold Piaget Polo in the music video of her 2008 hit, Take A Bow?

Now, the wait is finally over – for those who have been holding out for a sleeker, more slender Piaget Polo to call their own. Enter the new Piaget Polo Date 36mm, which comes perfectly proportioned for petite wrists, and in not one but six different elegant styles.

Capturing the mood of the moment

True to code, the Piaget Polo Date 36mm has the distinctive shape-in-shape silhouette with its round bezel and cushion-shaped dial. This unique design feature has remained constant through all the different iterations of the Piaget Polo, whether it was the 2016 Polo S, which did away with the striated dial in favour of a cleaner aesthetic, or the exquisitely-thin Polo Skeleton, revealed earlier this year.

Measuring 8.8mm thin, the Piaget Polo Date 36mm is powered by the in-house slim self-winding Calibre 500P1 which has a reserve of approximately 40 hours. Like the Polo Skeleton, the Piaget Polo Date 36mm has a sapphire case-back. Peek through it and be rewarded with a hypnotic view of the movement’s slate grey oscillating weight. Its graphic dial showcases a horizontal guilloché pattern, with elegant dauphine hands pointing at diamond-set indexes. Just above the six o’clock sits the discreet yet legible date window.

Exuberantly elegant

Piaget’s philosophy of living on the sunny side of life is exalted in the Piaget Polo Date 36mm line-up, comprising 6 distinctive yet refined looks in 3 different metals, stainless steel, rose gold and white gold. Each Piaget Polo Date 36mm channels effortless sophistication and charm.

Of the 2 stainless steel models, one features a sporty deep Piaget blue dial (reference G0A46018) while the other comes with a pristine white dial with a bezel set with 60 brilliant-cut diamonds (G0A046019).

The rose gold models possess a pure white dial and a diamond-set bezel (60 brilliant-cut diamonds), which are paired with a full rose gold bracelet (G0A46020) or a smart slate grey alligator strap (reference G0A46023).

And for those who take a shine to all that sparkles, there are two dazzling gem-set white gold models, whose dial and indexes are paved with 352 brilliant-cut diamonds. One is paired with a dark blue alligator strap that sets a lovely contrast against the glittery watch face (reference G0A46024); the other comes with a luxurious fully-paved diamond bracelet – set with a whopping 1259 brilliant-cut diamonds (G0A46022).

The majority of the models come with Piaget’s interchangeable strap system and are also available with a steel or gold bracelet that features alternating polished and satin-brushed H-shaped links that are perfectly integrated into the case.
