Longines: Time is Gold

by Pressroom

Longines takes the emblematic Master collection to the next level with the new GMT in 18K gold, available in a limited series of 500.

Timeless and subtle, the Longines Master collection speaks of quiet elegance and the watchmaking expertise of the winged hourglass brand. The two new additions in 18K yellow gold (ref: L2.844.6.71.2) or rose gold (ref: L2.844.8.71.2) , each limited to 500 pieces, and equipped with an exclusive Longines GMT movement, are a luxurious step up within the Master collection.

Powered by the exclusive Longines L.844.5 calibre, the Master GMT features a silicon balance-spring and innovative components, offering a magnetic resistance up to ten times greater than the ISO 764 benchmark standard. This self-winding mechanical movement with a power reserve of up to 72 hours is visible through the transparent sapphire case back of the elegant 40mm diameter case.

Adding to its refined sophistication is the frosted silver dial that features a 24-hour scale in Arabic numerals on the rim, reversed at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, and the GMT hand in black – all to facilitate the reading of the second time zone. Notably, the GMT function here connects to the brand’s pioneering spirit and its centuries-old expertise in multi time-zone watches that dates back to 1925, when the first Longines dual time‐zone wristwatch was manufactured in 1925. The historic timepiece featured the Zulu flag on its dial, with Zulu referring to the letter Z which designates universal time for aviators and members of the armed forces. Thereafter, the development of other GMT models, particularly for aeronautical purposes, has remained key to Longines’ pioneering role in this field, with the company having registered a patent for the invention of this watchmaking complication as early as 1936.

Every detail is thought out carefully for the Longines Master Collection GMT: from the gold watch hands and eleven hour markers that complement the solid gold case, to a railroad minute track that separates the Arabic numerals from the Roman numerals, all the way to the ultra-soft anthracite-grey leather strap finished with a special “soft-touch” vegetable tanning process and fitted with a tongue buckle in yellow gold or rose gold. No detail is missed when it comes to streamlining the watch for style and usability, a testament to Longines’ expertise steeped in tradition, elegance and performance.
