This season’s Apple Watch Hermès Series 8 has fun with the French house’s horsey heritage.
Hermès has long been a champion of the leading horological brands of the day (think Jaeger-LeCoultre and Vacheron Constantin), showcasing and retailing selected timepieces at its famed flagship at 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
In 2015, Hermès announced yet another collaboration with arguably the most important brand currently pushing the envelope for digital watches – Apple.
This year, the joint collection Apple Watch Hermès Series 8 is playful and whimsical, featuring bands and faces inspired by the house’s equestrian heritage. A lighthearted illustration of a horse’s face adorns the screen, featuring bright pop art colours that change with the wearer’s moods and movements of their wrist. No design detail is too small – at 10:10, the hands delightfully form a harness on the horse’s head!
The equestrian references also feature in the watch straps – the double tour Gourmette strap is a bold black leather and steel chain combination; while the H Diagonal strap revives an perennial Hermès motif with precise perforations on brightly coloured calfskin.
This season’s Apple AirTag Hermès designs are lighthearted and fun, featuring symbols of a house, a bicycle, or a boat printed on the calfskin key ring case ingeniously concealing the key.
