Harry Winston Emerald Collection: Exceptional Exuberance

by Susanah Cheok

Vibrant, exquisite and versatile, this iconic collection celebrates Harry Winston’s legacy in more ways than one

Harry Winston’s Emerald Collection novelties are unabashedly feminine. While androgyny had been a buzzword for women’s timepieces for a long time, Harry Winston recreates – through daring colour, refined embellishments, and elevated versatility – a new wave back to classic womanliness with The Emerald Collection novelties for women. The new resplendent Emerald novelties for her allow wearers to don different looks on different days. Harry Winston understands that with empowerment comes choice; variety becomes the order of the moment as women fully embrace the multiplicity of femininity and the roles they play.

The slender and elegant Emerald for her comes in novelties with exciting pink calfskin double strap and gorgeous green double-tour satin, in graceful mother-of-pearl faces in a choice of three colours, as well as in stylish Milanese mesh.

A coup in design, the exquisite craftsmanship behind the fine Milanese mesh straps is translated into a supple, pliant bracelet that sits beautifully on the wrist too. In the Emerald Collection of novelties, the octagonal dials are also decidedly petite and dainty to emphasise the outstanding refinement of this collection. Bedecked in Harry Winston’s sparkling diamonds, celebratory, fresh and vibrant, the Emerald novelties are a collection of beautifully designed watches that are really pieces of exquisite jewellery in themselves – splendid, eye-catching, yet wearable any and every day.

First Came The Shape

Auspiciously, Harry Winston’s passion for the emerald-cut and shape began for him at the age of 12, when he spotted a green stone in a tray of costume jewellery at a pawnshop in New York City. While the shop owner thought it was just a piece of glass, and sold it to him for 25 cents, Winston’s instincts told him it was an emerald. When he presented his purchase to his father, the elder Winston was certain that the stone was just a piece of glass, and almost took a file to it when his son stopped him just in time. Two days after the serendipitous pawnshop discovery, young Harry Winston re-sold the emerald for $800.

The shape of the emerald went on to become a signature of Harry Winston, its graceful silhouette a reference to the pure geometric lines of the Art Deco period when Mr. Winston laid the cornerstone of the House of Harry Winston. The iconic octagonal shape is seen on the sophisticated Emerald collection, an homage to Mr. Winston’s favourite cut for precious gemstones. For him, the emerald cut – understated, timeless and tasteful – was the most elegant and flattering cut for precious stones. Little wonder it has become intimately associated with the sophisticated creations bearing the Harry Winston name.

Sweet Life

Harry Winston makes a grand toast to life with the effervescent gala pink Emerald, with a fuchsia mother-of-pearl face that looks as delicious as hard candy. It is further enhanced with a contrasting white gold Milanese mesh bracelet, and a generous sprinkling of Harry Winston’s brilliant-cut sparklers around the bezel, and floating on the dial. Like champagne bubbles, the different-size cabochons and 20 brilliant-cut diamonds razzle-dazzle around the chapter ring, framing the octagonal centre with its delightful iridescent pink mother-of-pearl backdrop. In pride of place, the signature emerald-shaped Harry Winston logo in 18K white gold is fixed at noon. The double-tour candy pink calfskin strap version offers an edgier feel. These pour femme timekeepers are each accompanied by gold and diamond-set ardillon buckles.

Quadruple Emerald

Prim, pretty and elegant, the 18K rose gold models with emerald green or white mother-of-pearl dials adopt more classical dress-watch codes. Like a mirror image, the eight sides of the case are also reflected on the dial. Festooned with 44 brilliant-cut diamonds, the octagonal chapter ring features a heart-shaped depression at noon to cradle an emerald-cut stone. True to its namesake, the gemstone glowing mysteriously at noon is a bright green emerald-cut emerald accompanied by three other brilliant cuts, at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. These timeless treasures are preciously attached to the wrist with matching gold ardillon buckles set with 11 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Versatility Unsurpassed

Never has a women’s dress-watch collection come with more creative variety. The Emerald Collection novelties are a timepiece wardrobe unto themselves. Offering additional versatility, the new Emerald models can also be worn in 18K white or rose gold Milanese mesh bracelets scintillating with 36 brilliant-cut diamonds, and an additional 11 diamonds on the buckle. The epitome of everyday refinement, these imaginatively crafted timepieces are also water-resistant to 30 metres, and equipped with a precision Swiss quartz movement – the better for everyday enjoyment.
