The innovative cushion shape central to Cartier’s Coussin de Cartier collection is a marvel of craftsmanship and tactility
Cartier’s latest offering, the Coussin de Cartier collection, is a testament to the Maison’s enduring commitment to innovation and artistic expression. Originally introduced as a watch in 2022, the Coussin de Cartier now extends its allure to jewellery, elevating the brand’s iconic cushion-shaped central design with exquisite craftsmanship.
Central to the jewellery collection’s allure is the Maison’s unparalleled savoir-faire, as artisans reimagine the woven mesh structure to achieve generous volume, buoyancy, and movement. Each piece, be it a ring or bracelet, is delicately finished by hand to ensure flexibility and brilliance, before diamonds are set using a special process that particularly enhances light refraction.
This wonderfully tactile design is reflected in the timepiece collection, particularly the gold and diamond versions, for which Cartier introduces a triangular setting which allows the diamonds to be seamlessly integrated into the case without traditional grain settings, enhancing their luminosity and beauty. The juxtaposition of different stone diameters creates a visual rhythm, accentuating the dynamic movement of the pieces.
For a more avant-garde take, Cartier offers two-tone versions of the timepieces featuring diamonds starkly contrasted with black spinels, Paraiba tourmalines against tsavorites – and these converge in a sophisticated play on colours and textures.
However, it is the limited edition watches that truly steal the spotlight. Designed by Cartier’s research and innovation laboratory, these delicate watches feature a soft, flexible case entirely paved with diamonds or coloured stones. These delicate watches, adorned with a grid pattern of intertwining gold links, feature an innovative element that allows the case to transform and retract, offering an entirely new and luxurious sensory experience.
