The travelling showcase of 200 imaginative interpretations of the Louis Vuitton’s signature trunk makes its first global stop at Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay.
This April, the travelling exhibition featuring 200 creative iterations of Louis Vuitton’s emblematic trunk lands in Marina Bay. The ambitious homage to founder Louis Vuitton on his bicentennial birthday has been transported from his abode in Asnières, France to the esplanade adjacent to the scenic Singapore store. The dedicated exhibition venue features the Maison’s signature graphic – a Damier façade alternating with windows, offering views of both the interior and exterior. The bold signature of “Louis 200” across the roof can be seen from an aerial perspective.
Besides paying tribute to Louis Vuitton’s innovative legacy, the exhibition is also part of the wider LV200 project – a fully philanthropic undertaking focused on uplifting the creative undertakings of young talents globally. In line with this spirit of spotlighting the creative fields, talents and friends of the Maison – from the domains of arts and culture, the sciences, sports, global causes and more – were invited to personalise the trunk. 200 remarkable iterations graced a metaphorical blank canvas measuring 50 x 50 x 100 centimetres, approximately the dimensions of the original trunk that Louis conceived in the 1850s. These vessels communicate dreams and desires with abstract concepts, and artistic expressions from familiar names such as Supreme, Peter Marino, Lego, Liu Wei, BTS, Cao Fei and Fornasetti, and will be showcased in Singapore, the global first stop.
Upon entering, visitors will find themselves in a briefing room lined with LED screens. Designed to feel like you are in a warehouse, the original art pieces are juxtaposed with screen-panelled ‘Magic Trunks’ and a robot-trunk – Monsieur Louis – a futuristic transfiguration of object and creator. The physical trunks are randomly stacked at different heights upon their assigned shipping crates that take them across the globe on this artistic tour, a practical and creative endeavour aligned with the Maison’s circular creativity efforts.
The experience then leads visitors to an open dreamscape panorama and concludes with two dedicated rooms. The first is a truly interactive space where visitors can participate by adding their own creations. The walls feature the reproduction of the trunk interpreted by BTS; each member had contributed to one side of this rendition. The final room is an audio speakeasy featuring a functioning 200-track jukebox trunk by British DJ and producer Benji B. Before leaving, visitors can spend time in a lifestyle area to watch video interviews and browse books.
The exhibition is free of charge. Register your interest at ap.louisvuitton.com from 1 April 2022.
