Roger Vivier Pièce Unique is back with a cabinet of curiosities. “Petites Merveilles” recalls natural ecosystems and their mythic interpretations by translating the ethereal beauty of insects and their flora into exquisite couture. 15 one-of-a-kind Viv’ Choc handbags and 4 silk gilets in lush palettes form the textured canvas for creative interpretations of the likes of butterflies, bees and scarabs. These tiny, precious creatures, vital to life on Earth, are presented as ‘jewels of nature’ under the imagination of creative director Gherardo Felloni.
Each creation bears intricate details recalling the namesake creature: distinctive characteristics of a particular species, abstract iterations of its habitat, appearance, or symbolism. Taking in every one of these details is like journeying through marvels of the entomological world via couture craftsmanship.
See this magnificent universe in micro and macro, from day to night, and behold the intertwining of crystals and bugle beading manifesting landscapes from the thriving green forest to the arid desert. Femininity as a theme, comes up along the way – shimmering in the iridescence of scarab beetles, sparkling in the rhinestones adorning peacock blue butterfly wings, and dancing on a pearlescent patchwork of white feathers.
The atelier’s prowess is in full view at the Salle d’Argent of the Maison’s Parisian boutique on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. The gilets are dressed on mannequins, while the handbags are presented against a velvet setting surrounded by stunning gilded insects – jewels of nature, indeed.
By itself, every Pièce Unique design is a showcase of the Maison’s expert craftsmanship – from embroidery to feather quilting, metalwork and jewellery-making; each work of art seamlessly embracing the signature lines of the Viv’ Choc and its iconic Roger Vivier buckle. Together, the collection is a gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) of artistic expression that flows from one design to another.
