Burberry: The Pocket Bag

by Pressroom

Raw femininity meets modern vintage.

Bella Hadid fronts Burberry’s first ever bag campaign and lends the House’s new signature bag a raw, feline energy through the lens of Dutch photography duo Inez and Vinoodh.

Everyone was in awe of the black panther and Bella translated the feline qualities beautifully. Animal moves and body positions are always inspiring as a starting point for a photograph, it gives a very unusual body language to the fashion shot.

I absolutely loved shooting this campaign, letting my inner animal spirit run free! We had so much fun on set, the mood was really sultry and playful, I felt we were really capturing that feline energy and power.

The campaign pays tribute to the House’s heritage – the Burberry Animal Kingdom, a house code first established by founder Thomas Burberry. Building on this heritage since taking over the creative reins of the Burberry, Riccardo Tisci introduced and evolved new animal motifs and prints season after season.

Under Tisci, the House of Burberry has also seen the revival of classics pushing the boundaries of modernity. The Pocket Bag is no exception.

For me, a lot of my creative concepts come from discovering old house codes and then creating new ones. I have always loved going into the archives and that is where I found the inspiration for this Pocket Bag.

Since its debut in the Fall/Winter 2019 collection, the structured Pocket Bag has charmed many with its vintage good looks and roomy interior, complete with contrast topstitching and hand-painted edges. The pairing of leather with canvas alludes to the equestrian roots of the House, while a front pocket and leather taping differentiate it from the archival Burberry bag that inspired its design.

Available in different colourways and sizes, online and in-store at your nearest Burberry boutique.
