Bag Talk: Saint Laurent Solferino

by Emmeline Ong

Classic with a dash of cool.

There is an air of laidback coolness in the Saint Laurent Solferino harking back to its namesake, Rue de Solferino on the left bank of Paris.

Every curve and every line takes precision to perfect that “effortlessness”; it is after all, always the simplest forms that require the keenest eye and deftest hands. The bag sports clean lines and houses a triple gusset that holds up its shape despite its contents – a welcome feature if you like to fill your bag to the brim or leave more room inside. With a shorter shoulder strap, you can reach the contents more easily, and hold it closer if you are wearing it as a crossbody.

Made from Saint Laurent box leather, the Solferino is structured but not rigid, aided partially by the padded pipings that outline it. The sheen of the hand-rolled leather pairs perfectly with the bronze-toned Cassandre logo, in which lies the covert pivoting closure activated by pushing down the horizontal stroke of the letter “L” – possibly my favourite feature of all.

The Solferino comes in two sizes and is seen here in the small size in the shade of ‘Ivory’, retailing for SGD 3650.
