Vacheron Constantin celebrates a century of its iconic (rotated dial) timepiece with an exhibition of its most daring designs through the Roaring Twenties.
The Vacheron Constantin’s Historiques American 1921 is so named because it was only produced in limited quantities for the Transatlantic market, and is instantly recognisable for its unique cushion case, corner-set crown and off-centre dial.
Think American jetset during the Roaring Twenties – Gatsby in his convertible with driving gloves and distinctive timepiece with a rotated dial. The story goes: the design springs from the need to be able to tell the time quickly while careering down the highway without having to take your hand off the bus-sized steering wheel of your 1920s automobile.
For the 100th anniversary of this iconic timepiece, Vacheron Constantin is bringing the “Classic with a Twist” exhibition to Singapore, where it will display its designs from the 1910s to the 1930s. This period spans the irrepressible Roaring Twenties and the Art Deco movement, and documents a chronology of artistic freedom at Vacheron Constantin with daring shapes and avant-garde designs.
Tonneau (barrel), lozenge, rectangle, cushion, oval, curved or cambered silhouettes all make an appearance at one point or another, and make a great commentary on the exciting societal and cultural changes taking place at the dawn of the 20th century in America.
On the occasion of the anniversary, Vacheron Constantin Singapore is also offering a complimentary client care service to all owners of the American 1921 residing in Singapore. A diagnosis will be made by an in-house watchmaker, followed by a complimentary functional or complete service and watch spa.
