Return to Tiffany®: Getting a real buzz about the birds and the bees

by Valerie Wee

Things get into a real whirr and flurry with Tiffany & Co. in the jeweller’s latest and boldest reinvention of their 50-year-old range Return to Tiffany®

Spring is back in the house of Tiffany & Co. with a real flurry of activity. Their iconic line, Return to Tiffany® with its engraved letters that made each piece of jewellery special to its owner together with a plea to “Please Return to Tiffany & Co. New York”. The idea behind the collection was to celebrate and nurture the bond between owner and trinket beyond simple sentimentality – that if ever lost, a Tiffany piece was specifically designed to find its way back to you. And when it comes to romancing the notion of forever together into shiny little things, these guys are really good at bringing it to the next level.

This time, the collection is renamed Return to Tiffany® Love Bugs and given a breath of sunshine in its interpretation so as to reflect the jewellery maker’s love for the chirpy side of Mother Nature – the flowers, the bees, birds and bugs. Debugging this fifty-year-old line takes on a whole new meaning – a sweet ladybird marches across a large green quartz ring, two lovebirds croon cheek to cheek on a broach, diamond daisy chains glitter amongst busy bees atop citrine jewels and butterflies blush rose gold on silver wristlets.

The collection is disarmingly cheery, sparkly and colourful. There is a laugh-out-loud lightness and sweet innocent charm to the pieces. Who would have thought a collection that evoked an urban vibe of engraved silver designs could be re-envisioned to embrace colour and organic shapes. Some of us are compelled to think that perhaps these creepy lovelies, or lovely crawlies, bearing the “Return to Tiffany” buzzwords on their backs, are sending a different message today: a call to old friends and fans to return and be reunited together once more.
