Piaget: A Thing of Beauty

Piaget’s Altiplano Skeleton High Jewellery Métiers d’Art timepiece is a celebration of painstaking artistry and refinement

Swiss watchmaker Piaget has unveiled its latest high jewellery creation, the Altiplano Skeleton High Jewellery Métiers d’Art, a striking limited edition of just eight pieces that merges its signature ultra-thin watchmaking with the artistry of enamel and gemstones. Co-created with acclaimed enamel artist Anita Porchet, this timepiece exemplifies Piaget’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of technical precision and aesthetic excellence.

Building on a legacy that began in 1874 in La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget’s artisans have long combined mechanical innovation with decorative artistry. Starting with the 9P movement in the 1960s, the brand elevated watchmaking into the realm of haute couture, using ornamental stones and precious gems. The Altiplano Skeleton takes this tradition further, showcasing the meticulously gem-set 1201D1 skeleton movement, adorned with diamonds and sapphires, and enveloping it in a vibrant display of Grand Feu cloisonné enamel.

Porchet, a long-time collaborator of the Maison, applied shades of blue, green, and purple enamel to the front and back of the watch – a first for Piaget. The enamel blends seamlessly with the gradient of baguette-cut gemstones, extending across the bezel in a mesmerising fusion of colour and light. At just 7mm thick, the 40mm case exemplifies Piaget’s ultra-thin craftsmanship, a hallmark of the brand.

This new release is a triumph of three savoir-faire disciplines: skeleton movement design, gem-setting, and enamelling. The Altiplano Skeleton Métiers d’Art is not only a technical marvel but also a testament to Piaget’s ethos of “always doing better than necessary.” It solidifies the brand’s reputation for reimagining traditional watchmaking and high jewellery in increasingly bold and inventive ways. This exceptional timepiece is not merely a watch but a wearable work of art — a testament to Piaget’s enduring commitment to pushing creative boundaries while honouring its rich heritage.
