Maison Cartier’s latest collection is a delightful play on contrasts.
French jeweller Cartier is well-loved not only for its timeless, elegant designs but also for its creative daring – the House did, after all, take just a nail (Juste un Clou) in the 1970s, and make it into a covetable bracelet.
More recently, the Maison showed the world its playful, cheeky side with the unconventional Cactus de Cartier collection in 2016, which featured creative, sculptural forms inspired by every hipster’s favourite prickly house plant.
This April, Cartier launches yet another distinctive collection that speaks to the modern style maven. Playing on contrasts and contradictions, the latest jewellery signature is aptly named Clash de Cartier – a “swipe”, “at protocol, tradition and liberty”.
A nod to Maison Cartier’s fondness for geometry in the 1930s, Clash de Cartier is a remix of studs, beads and clous carrés from earlier designs.
A Clash of Attitudes
So what does this mean in aesthetic terms? Clash de Cartier is edgy yet refined, fixed yet moveable, bold yet understated. Embracing sharp angles and soft curves, Cartier’s heritage elements of studs, beads and clous carrés (square nails) are woven together to form a singular, ribbed mesh in 4N pink gold. Polished to shine at every angle, the rose gold finish is at once striking, warm and decadent.
A Masterful Feat
As always, the craftsmanship of every Clash de Cartier piece is impeccable. Each element is individually mounted and calibrated so that the interconnected studs are evenly spaced and mobile. Uncompromising on comfort, the jewellery is also delicately scalloped on the inside. Indeed, perfection is in the details, such as the bracelet clasp, which is cleverly designed to be concealed when worn.
The face of this latest collection by Cartier, is British Actress Kaya Scodelario, who has declared that she is not a ‘girly’ girl.
The chic British actress also once said,
‘“I don’t know any women who are one-dimensional, so why would I play one?”
That’s just one of the many reasons why Kaya’s the perfect face for Clash de Cartier.
“Kaya cultivates two facets of the same energy in a stylish balancing act, a creative duel between serious and quirky. Like the Clash de Cartier collection, the actress combines the aristocratic codes with a touch of irreverence and elegance.”
Arnaud Carrez, International Marketing and Communications Director, Cartier International
The collection launches globally on April 10, 2019.
