Cartier: Beauty in the Bean

by Pressroom

The Grain de Café collection welcomes new additions that dance to the rhythm of a playful elegance

Small yet mighty, the coffee bean that powers many of us through the everyday became the source of inspiration for Jeanne Toussaint in 1938. The humble bean of energy became a motif present in Cartier jewellery, rising to popularity, especially in the 1950s and ’60s – the ordinary made precious by recreating the flora in gold.

The jewels in the Grain de Café collection come alive in movement and texture, each element individually polished, and rustling ever so gently with the slightest move. Tactile and sparkly, the coffee bean is elevated through the creative imagination and exquisite craftsmanship of the Maison.

In the words of Marie-Laure Cérède, the figurative Grain de Café collection represents “the freedom to surpass literal creative execution and develop a multi-sensory architecture”. This year’s new additions continue the spirit of the collection, as seen on the face of the collection, Elle Fanning. Among them are interpretations of the bean in a mesmerising combination of obisidians and diamonds on pink gold, and diamonds paired with yellow and white gold.
