Blancpain’s famous Fifty Fathoms collection gets a bold update with the Calibre 1315 and a choice of new materials
Swiss watchmaker Blancpain unveils an exciting expansion to its iconic Fifty Fathoms collection, marking a new milestone in its long diving heritage. The new 42mm-diameter models crafted in opulent red gold and lightweight yet durable grade 23 titanium, are a tribute to the legacy of the Fifty Fathoms, which revolutionised watchmaking as the first true diver’s watch in 1953.
Key signature elements that established the Fifty Fathoms as the archetypal diver’s watch continue to define the identity of such timepieces for the entire watch industry – these include water resistance, robust doubled-sealed crown, self-winding movement, contrasting dark dial with luminescent indications, lockable rotating bezel and anti-magnetic protection, to name a few.
Now, Blancpain takes a bold step forward, offering enthusiasts the coveted Calibre 1315 movement renowned for its precision timing and remarkable five-day power reserve. This sophisticated movement, meticulously designed and assembled in-house, has an 18K red gold oscillating weight whose design is inspired by the rotor of the historical 1953 timepiece.
In a nod to tradition, the collection features a sapphire-topped bezel for enhanced durability and legibility, a hallmark of the original Fifty Fathoms design. Moreover, the watches are available with either a blue or black dial, accompanied by a range of strap options apart from the matching titanium bracelet, including sail-canvas, NATO, and a textured rubber iteration reminiscent of the 1953 model.
Beyond their exquisite craftsmanship, these timepieces symbolise Blancpain’s enduring commitment to ocean exploration and conservation. Since its inception, the Fifty Fathoms has been an indispensable tool for divers worldwide, embodying resilience, functionality, and style. With each watch sold, Blancpain reinforces its pledge to ocean preservation through the Blancpain Ocean Commitment initiative.
As the guardian of marine heritage, Blancpain continues to push the boundaries of innovation while honouring its rich history. The new Fifty Fathoms Automatique models stand as a testament to the brand’s unwavering dedication to excellence, ensuring a bright future for both discerning collectors and adventurers alike.
