A. Lange & Söhne unveils its latest technical marvel, the Datograph Handwerkskunst, to mark its 25th anniversary

German luxury watchmaker A. Lange & Söhne has introduced a limited-edition model of its iconic Datograph chronograph to celebrate the timepiece’s 25th anniversary. The Datograph Handwerkskunst, limited to just 25 pieces, showcases the brand’s renowned craftsmanship and attention to detail, with a special focus on artisanal finishing techniques.

Encased in yellow gold, the watch features a black-rhodiumed dial adorned with tremblage engraving, a complex method that gives the surface a textured, three-dimensional effect. This intricate process, done by hand, highlights the brand’s dedication to combining technical precision with artistic flair.

Other key elements of the dial, such as the tachymeter scale and Roman numerals, have been meticulously preserved amidst the ornate engravings.

The Datograph Handwerkskunst also boasts A. Lange & Söhne’s signature calibre L951.8 movement, visible through the sapphire-crystal caseback. The movement includes 426 parts, many of which are finished using the time-consuming black polishing technique – it ensures that light is reflected in a single direction, making the surface of the lever appear jet black when viewed from a particular angle, yet shows a mirror-like gloss from all other angles.

Its bridges echo the tremblage texture seen on the dial, while the balance cock is hand-engraved with a delicate vine motif, further emphasising the model’s artisanal touches that differentiate it.

With a power reserve of 60 hours and features like a flyback chronograph and outsized date display, the watch remains as functional as it is decorative.

Exclusively available at Lange boutiques, this model debuted at the Watches & Wonders event in Shanghai and at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace, highlighting A. Lange & Söhne’s continued legacy of pushing the boundaries of traditional watchmaking.
