Local lifestyle brand Scene Shang ventures beyond furniture and homeware to dive deeper into the realm of scents.
Scene Shang has long been a breath of fresh air in the local homeware and furniture scene. Look no further than their iconic The Banker lamp and award-winning Jia Ju stool for a taste of their style that has its presence in many spaces to date. But a space is not just about the objects but also how we experience these objects – and how they touch our senses. So, this time, they look to transform how one experiences a space with scents.
Scents might not be entirely new to Scene Shang but the spotlight has yet to be on them till now. In a bold new step, the brand has transformed their showroom into an unconventional display that immerses you in the experience of their new line of scents with a visual representation of what the scent evokes – a “scene” to appreciate (“shang”) each scent if you will.
Each of these spaces are designed to be meditative. We want the audience to not just get a full sensory experience but also find calm in experiencing these spaces. We integrated a wide range of organic textures and unusual materials to defy people’s expectations of what retail is and can be. We are aiming to create an immersive lifestyle experience that gently encourages self-care and love —because we believe in spreading good living, one breath at a time.

Ascend the PAGODA – Sandalwood & Nutmeg
Begin your journey with the scent of PAGODA – a concoction that blends calming sandalwood & spicy nutmeg to lift the spirits. Traditionally, pagodas symbolise heightened awareness as one wanders up in a meditative journey towards the sky. Here, the pagoda welcoming you at the entrance is an organically shaped, multi-tiered structure, made from cloud-like swirls of brown paper.
Stroll along the LAKE – White Tea & Fern
Cross over to the Lake to find yourself surrounded by round river pebbles and touches of aquatic plants as you get a whiff of white tea & fern. In tune with this earthy, floral scent is a calming visual palette of soft greys; a soft grey carpet grounds the new MING Dining Table featuring a solid walnut table top that appears to float off geometric steel legs. add quiet texture and life to this space.
Traverse the COURTYARD – Lily of the Valley & Grapefruit
Defining the Courtyard are grey geometric bricks with Tyvek paper arches. Artworks with hexagon and plum-shaped frames (inspired by Chinese courtyard gardens as a device to frame views) depicting heritage shophouses line one side of this section while THE MAVERICK Armchair on the grey brick platform encourages one to sit down and relax.
Relax on the ISLAND – Orchid & Violet Leaves
Unwind in this light-filled space surrounded by lush tropical plants, sand, and stone as you breathe in this fresh floral scent and feast your eyes on two new limited edition models of the brand’s bestselling THE BANKER Lamp sitting on raised blocks.
Retreat into the CAVE – Vetiver & Tobacco
Entering the next dimension of scents into the Cave, with a woody, smoky scent. Lengths of white and grey ribbons are suspended from the ceiling to create this cave-like space. Helming this space is the award-winning XUAN Table that transforms from console to mahjong table.
