Montblanc Signs & Symbols: Eastern Promises

by Pressroom

Montblanc’s newest Signs & Symbols collection is rich with the myths and legends of East Asia

Montblanc is paying tribute to East Asian culture with its latest Signs & Symbols collection, featuring limited-edition writing instruments inspired by the region’s myths and legends. The annual collection, which has been running since 2015, is divided into two series: The Legend of Zodiacs and A Journey Among Dragons, each showcasing Montblanc’s craftsmanship and dedication to storytelling through design.

The Legend of Zodiacs: Snake Limited Edition 512

This year, Montblanc honours the Year of the Snake with The Legend of Zodiacs Snake Limited Edition 512. Representing wisdom, intuition, and cleverness, the snake is artfully depicted in blackened and polished sterling silver, coiling around a bamboo shoot, its head turning toward the sky. Symbolism abounds: the snake’s raised head signifies longevity and happiness, while the bamboo is a sign of success, flexibility and vitality. Limited to 8 pieces, the pen is crowned with a mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem, and its barrel is engraved with patterns inspired by Chinese knots, signifying good fortune.

A Journey Among Dragons: Winged Dragon Limited Edition 88

Accompanying the zodiac collection is A Journey Among Dragons, which explores the legend of Yinglong, a winged dragon from ancient Chinese mythology that brings prosperity through bestowing rain during drought periods. The Winged Dragon Limited Edition 88 features the dragon engraved beneath gradient lacquer that shifts from dark green to emerald green, and is adorned with green sapphires and diamonds. The shade of lacquer was chosen as a nod to qing, the colour associated with the dragon.

A Journey Among Dragons: Limited Edition 8

An even more exclusive version, the Limited Edition 8, features a 3D hand-engraved dragon on a white gold cap encrusted with precious gems like tsavorites and Paraiba tourmalines, along with blue topaz eyes. A light blue sapphire and the character Hong dress the nib where a double-headed dragon in the shape of a rainbow resides. Solid gold fittings and a light blue sapphire in the cone complete the design of this rare writing instrument.

Both editions showcase Montblanc’s meticulous attention to detail, with opulent materials and designs that echo ancient symbols of wealth, wisdom, and renewal.

The collection is completed with matching accessories, including a red snake-themed leather notebook, cufflinks, and ink.

These new releases continue Montblanc’s tradition of blending cultural homage with exquisite artistry, making them both collector’s items and personal talismans for the coming year.
