This summer, Fendi marks 100 years with a sun-soaked, cinematic tribute to Rome
Marking its centenary in suitably lavish style, Italian fashion house Fendi has looked to its past to shape its future. The Summer 2025 collection pays homage to Histoire d’Eau – the maison’s first Ready-to-Wear outing under Karl Lagerfeld in 1977 – reimagining the spirit of that film through a fresh, modern lens.

Set against the backdrop of a Roman summer, the collection is a love letter to the city’s languid glamour. Breezy fabrics meet refined craftsmanship across flowing maxi dresses, city shorts and swimwear, all drenched in a seaside palette of coral red, terracotta, seafoam and iced lemon.

Coral motifs dominate, appearing as sculptural jewellery, delicate embroidery, and bold prints, often intertwined with bandana florals and underwater blooms.

There’s a palpable sense of ease throughout, offset by Fendi’s hallmark rigour in construction and embellishment. Techniques such as patchwork devoré lace, laser-cut denim, and appliquéd leather reveal the maison’s artisanal strength, while a subtle sporty edge runs through tank dresses, flared skirts, and shell-trimmed tunics.

Accessories bring a sense of playful opulence. Raffia is woven with ingenuity across totes and wide-brimmed hats, while Fendi’s iconic bags – Peekaboo, Baguette, and By The Way – are refreshed with trompe l’oeil denim leather and bandana motifs. Footwear ranges from thong sandals with a sculptural ‘F’ strap to flatform wedges and stitched slides.

Fendi ambassador and South Korean actor Song Hye Kyo fronts the collection, carrying the standout Baguette Mini Denim bag, embellished with tone-on-tone yarn embroidery including transparent sequins and white bugle beads that create the Coral Bandana motif. It’s a piece as functional as it is artful – emblematic of a collection that celebrates Fendi’s heritage with playful modern detailing.
