Embrace your femininity fearlessly this season.
Ladies and Gentleman
Sleek tailoring and streamlined silhouettes by way of pantsuits, safari jackets and classic trench coats rank high amongst designers for the resort collections. Long, lean and lovely pantsuits take the spotlight at Burberry, Fendi and Givenchy. Since it’s the resort season, there were a plethora of casual looks – but the idea is to dress up these dressed down separates. Tailored bermuda shorts took on a sophisticated spin at Miu Miu when paired with an oversized jacket. At Chanel, the utilitarian safari jacket looked refreshingly ladylike when styled with a chain bow belt and drop earrings.
Accessories: Simple Statement
Add interest to the androgynous ensembles with a pop of colour and texture when accessorising. A worthy investment is Bottega Veneta’s quilted slip-on sandals. Other footwear options to consider are strappy sandals pumps and pointed knee-high leather boots. When it comes to bags, nothing says lady boss like an expensive exotic skin handbag. But for the weekend, ditch the sling and go for the clutch – specifically the practical multi-pocket clutch from Chanel.
Valley of the Dolls
Make way for tulle, candy floss pink, bows and ribbons. If you love anything girly and ultra-feminine, this is the season for it. Dresses led the way with exaggerated puffy sleeved modern prairie styles at Miu Miu. It was also the season for a floral extravaganza – but these weren’t just ordinary floral frocks. Both Stella McCartney and Virginie Viard of Chanel rendered their floral pieces with a 3D effect that’s guaranteed to turn heads. Lastly, an interesting detail not to be missed are bows and ribbons. It was supersized on an LBD at Carolina Herrera and as decorative trimmings at Chanel.
Accessories: Think Pretty
Channel Cher from Clueless with platform sandals worn with socks. For posh girls, Chanel’s ballerina flats and Fendi’s bow sling-back pumps are undeniably chic. Another coveted item from Chanel this season are their oh-so-pretty chain ribbon belts.
All Hail the Hippie
There’s no doubt that the Seventies had a colourful history packed with trends that are still relevant today. Fringe had big retro references – from multi-coloured ponchos at Balmain to suede fringe jackets worn with floral dresses at Etro. Beautiful white bohemian maxi dresses made a case at Dior and Giambastista Valli and for a touch of Seventies glamour, look no further than Valentino. Pierpaolo Piccioli’s divine feather-trimmed embellished blouse is giving us all the Bianca Jagger feels.
Accessories: New Vintage Bags
The trend for retro-inspired handbags is still going strong and for resort, some new entries include the Ivy bag from Louis Vuitton.
Mad House
Don’t hold back the drama. Fashion is all about having fun anyway. So, if you have the guts to wear something loud and brash, flaunt it to the fullest! Looking to make a statement? Animal prints are always a good idea but this season, stick to zebra prints. Don’t keep the fancy sequined stuff only for after hours. There are plenty of standout shiny and glittery options for the day – great for those who love the limelight. Look to Paco Rabanne and Tibi for some fine selections. For the arty types, Burberry and Stella McCartney’s grafitti and scribble styled coats will make you the talk of fashion town!
Accessories: Loud and Proud
Quirky bags and oversized earrings are the way to go. Gucci has plenty of selections from special edition Mickey Mouse print bags to Herculean earrings. But if you have to get just one crazy thing this season, consider Louis Vuitton’s Chrysler building show-stopping evening bag.
And God Created Woman
Celebrate your god given assets in resort’s sexiest separates. Bustiers popped up on the runways of Versace and Burberry and there were plenty of corsetry at Louis Vuitton – but rendered in modern and futuristic styles, of course. You can always count on Mugler for some serious corsetry action and this season there were a few sexy peek-a-boo cutouts that just scream va va voom. Not a fan of too much cleavage? Victoria Beckham showed how you could do sexy and sleek with a sheer bodysuit worn with a sharp pantsuit.
Accessories: Trendy Tights
Hosiery continues making headlines and maybe it’s time you have a little fun with it. Take a break from the usual black and navy blue and try something snazzier.
