Black, white, red, brass, studs, chain, and leather: Magic happens when Valentino’s well-loved codes meet. The Valentino Garavani Stud Sign bag is the latest baby of the Roman maison’s re-signification process, led by Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli.
Forging new connections between past, present and an imagined future, the re-signification of Valentino gives fresh meaning to classics, and celebrates memory without nostalgia.
Part of the Valentino Act Collection of Fall/Winter 2021, where net tops and plastron embroidery meet metallic studs and rubber boots, the Stud Sign bag, too, is a stunning play of contrasts that embraces punk culture and sensuality as an attitude.
Swung in hand or slung across the shoulder, the Stud Sign bag cuts a striking presence – on the runway and in real life – with its bold antique brass-finish hardware and clean, structured silhouette.
Just as Piccioli’s re-signification project puts a magnifying glass on the House classics, the Stud Sign bag wears them, writ large, with daring and elegance.
The Roman stud, which echoes the stately bugnato of Roman palaces, gains prominence in the form of a chain, with multiple 18mm by 18mm studs finished in antique brass and connected by rectangular links.
A distinctive Valentino icon, the VLogo Signature, also finished in soft-sheen antique brass, takes pride of place on the flap, slightly curved and perfectly proportioned against the bag’s rectangular body.
Presented in contrasting colours of black and white, and crafted in grainy calfskin leather, the Valentino Garavani Stud Sign bag’s punk exterior belies the romantic soul that resides within. Its soft nappa lining in the Maison’s signature red is a beautiful, sensual statement that is not only a pleasure to behold but also offers a practical visual contrast against the objects it will hold.
And, true to Piccioli’s design approach, the Stud Sign is versatile and wearable, with two detachable straps of varying lengths.
For an edgier look, use the chain strap – which can be held either in hand or slung over the shoulder. For chic, carefree vibes, wear the bag cross-body with the adjustable long leather strap. For a touch of sophistication, go strapless and clutch it. Or personalise it – with a favourite scarf, as I did.
