Do some “home shopping” this Christmas.
As a child, I welcomed holidays; they meant less school and more play. Among friends, the favoured holiday was usually a toss between Christmas and New Year’s. For me, there was always something about the gifting season that offered comfort while giving each year a satisfying closure.
The years passed, and my financial independence grew. Though I always appreciate a thoughtful present, the joy of giving surpassed the excitement of receiving. Christmas aside, there were also the gifts I picked out when travelling overseas – choosing to support the local scene in a bid to share my experiences of the culture and craft that enchanted me.
This year, as overseas travel continues to obscure us, we find ourselves looking inward to rediscover and reflect. In our search for new ways to expand horizons within given limits, there are more opportunities than ever to explore our backyard and appreciate the abundance of local talent.
Shop local this Christmas, starting with “The Christmas Atelier” happening this weekend at The Atelier & Co. Immerse yourself in the yuletide cheer from Friday all the way till Sunday, from 11am to 8pm on 27 and 28 Nov, and 11am to 6pm on 29 Nov.
Here’s a peek into the festive wonderland, with a closer look at 5 homegrown brands that will meet your festive needs and beyond.
