Gifting season is here. If you’re still stuck holiday shopping, here’s some inspiration to wrap things up
It’s that time of the year when I yearn to cosy up with a good read, hot coffee and panettone in hand – the perfect setup for bingeing what’s streaming on my watchlist. But here I am again, rounding up the holiday gift list. While I’m lucky to be wrapping up (pun intended) early this year, I know gifting can be stressful. If you’re still deliberating what to get, or stuck halfway down the list, here’s how I get gifting inspiration.
There’s an inexplicable pleasure in witnessing how a gift for the home settles into the life of a friend or family. Take, for example, recognising the scent that welcomes you on your next visit. This holiday season, I’m embracing the welcoming notes of green and woody scents housed in vessels that are equally mesmerising.
Loewe Home’s Cypress Balls fragrance hits all the right notes. Housed in a sculptural, powdery blue vessel that manages to be striking on any given piece of furniture, the candles comes in sizes small, medium, large. An unforgettable gift, especially when paired with an equally stunning Candle Kit, or Wick Trimmer.
Housed in Limoges porcelain decorated in gold by artist Pietro Ruffo, the woody facets of Dior’s limited edition Bois des Rêves candle created by Francis Kurkdjian, evokes cosy feels of sitting by the fireplace on a winter’s night.
The essence of the holiday tree comes in the form of Diptyque’s seasonal candle Sapin. Dressed in luscious green and gold, it smells of pine needles and resin accords.
If scents are tricky to navigate for your target audience, it’s always heartwarming to spot handpicked homeware and furnishings being well-used and loved as a part of their daily lives. French artist-designer Sarah Espeute’s eco-responsible label Œuvres Sensibles features trompe-l’œil hand-embroidery on antique fabrics. The resulting table linen, bedspreads and cushion covers are as imaginative as they are endearing.
Of course, drinks and dinner served in tableware you so carefully chose, is a delight to be relished. Hermes Home’s tableware collections are pieces that tell stories of their own. Inspired by the passementerie and braiding used in harness-making, the Tressages Equestres collection recalls the brand’s origins through a mix of figurative and abstract representations that play with scale and colour on kaolin white porcelain. The beauty in this set is how it complements different cuisines.
Another gift for those who love to host could come in the form of a handcrafted bar cart designed by homegrown brand Nature Native. The versatile piece is made from sustainable rattan, then treated with eco-friendly black lacquer and natural wicker, tempered glass, and solid brass.
The gift of fresh flowers almost always bring a smile, but I am mindful of its transient nature. Though it’s commonly said that it’s the thought that counts, I always seek to make that thought last. ROTÉ Copenhagen makes by hand, precious beaded flowers down to the tiniest detail, so lifelike that I almost forget they’re not real.
Then there’s always the joy of dressing your loved one. From top to toe, there’s a gift for every style and need – from the style du jour like Miumiu’s enamel hair clips and adorable bag charms (think renditions of the brand’s signature penny loafers and ballet flats as tricks) on popular bag silhouettes like the Aventure top handle, to the fine jewellery classics like Chanel’s Comète and Coco Crush collections. Happy gifting!
