Onitsuka Tiger: Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright

by Pressroom

Cult Japanese brand Onitsuka Tiger rings in the new year with a one-of-a-kind collaboration with illustrator Yasushi Nirasawa.

The tiger of the Chinese zodiac comes sprinting on 1 February 2022, and it brings new vigour and ambition, confidence and generosity – and a touch of glamour.

In commemoration of the Year of the Tiger, Japanese fashion brand Onitsuka Tiger launches the “Year of Onitsuka Tiger” project, which consists of a series of collaborations with a variety of artists.

The first in its series is the OnitsukaTiger Man, created by the late legendary illustrator and modelmaker Yasushi Nirasawa for the brand in his latter years. Dressed in the brand’s famous stripes, the magnificent heteromorphic creature is part-tiger, part-man, with burning eyes and bristled mane – and will be featured across a special collection of T-shirts and sweatshirts.

In addition, the brand has also commissioned Takayuki Takeya, a figure modeller, to create a one-of-a-kind “OnitsukaTiger Man” figure based on the 3D illustration, which will be displayed at the  Onitsuka Tiger flagship stores in Omotesando and other locations.
